The Sutton on Sea and Trusthorpe Carnival Committee has produced yet another eventful carnival.
Jeff Smith Chairman and Parade Organiser, who has led the Committee for the past four years, said that the 2009 carnival was every bit as successful as in previous years.
The chosen carnival Queen was Samantha Goddard ably supported by Princesses Emily Bell, Kaydy Ward, Elizabeth Vango and Chloe Harvey.
Thousands of people flocked to Sutton on Sea to see the parade which was split into four sections each section being led by a well known successful marching band.
Section one was led by the RAF Waddington Voluntary Pipe Band. (This band will be performing in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in August).
Section two by the prize winning Lincolnshire Scout Band.
The Phoenix Chesterfield Musketeer Show Band led section three of the parade. (This band took part in this years St. Patricks Day Parade in London, and is due to take part in the Jersey Battle of the Flowers parade in August).
The final section was led by the very professional 31Earl Shilton Church Lads and Girls Band.
This year’s theme “Fictional Characters” inspired the participants to go out and stretch their imagination.
Of the many groups, floats and walkers that took part, to name but a few – Robin Hood and Maid Marion – Andy Pandy and Looby Loo – all the characters from Alice in Wonderland – Mary Poppins – Peter Pan with Wendy and the Pirates, plus a Hundred and One Dalmatians - Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma, Sleeping Beauty, and Biggles raised admiration from the crowd.
The Bernese Mountain Dogs pulling their highly decorated carts were a great hit, along with the FenBank Greyhounds.
Baton Twirlers, Independence Street Carnival Dancers, Brownies, Scouts, Sutton Primary School and a host of individual walkers together with some wonderful decorated mobility scooters all added to the festive occasion.
The RNLI, Coastwatch, the Coastguard also gave their support and The St Johns Ambulance Brigade kept a watchful eye on the proceedings.
A minor disappointment was not having the flypast by the Spitfire, which had to be cancelled due the high winds.
Everyone who watched the parade commented how colourful it was, and how much they were looking forward to the Carnival in 2010.
