Were you in Sutton on Sea on the night of Friday December the
8th? No! If not you missed a real treat.
Shoppers turned out in their hundreds to enjoy the festive atmosphere
at this years Victorian late night shopping. The High Street was
awash with people looking for that extra something, and they found
it, right here in Sutton on Sea. Charity stalls, craft stalls
and the local shops all reported bumper sales. Father Christmas
had over a hundred and fifty children visit him, all of whom received
a free present. Members of the Old Fossils handed out, free of
charge, ten gallon of Mulled wine and forty odd pounds of roasted
chestnuts to the happy late night shoppers.
The evening was another triumph for the "Old Fossils"
Gentlemen's Club who organized the event.
As Chairman of the club I would like to thank all those people
who made this event possible. Especially Steve from Steve Wood
Motors, for collecting the Christmas tree that now proudly stands
at the top of the High Street. Robert and Lenny Watson, Dave Rolleston,
Brian Lowe, for being available when we needed them, and the members
of the club and their wives (Who dressed up in the Victorian costumes)
for all their help. Lastly a very big thank you to Michael Kheng
from Spanish City Mablethorpe, who presented the club with a new
transformer to run this years Christmas tree lights.
All in all, like any event a lot of hard work. However despite
this, it was well worth it, just to bring together the local community
and to enjoy the festive goodwill factor.
Lastly thank you to all of you who supported this event, and
for those of you who missed it,
make a note. The 2007 late night shopping for Sutton on Sea will
be the Friday the 7th December.
