The Sutton on Sea “Old Fossils” Gentlemen’s
Club came up trumps once again, providing yet again another seventeen
foot Christmas tree to grace the roundabout at the top end of the
High Street. The tree which can be seen from anywhere in the High
Street was the focal point for the 2007 Victorian themed Late Night
Shopping organised by the club. The evening proved to be an overwhelming
success, not only for the stalls holders, shops, and charities,
but for the hundreds of shoppers who attended the event.
The twenty gallons of mulled wine provided by the club went down
well with the shoppers as did the forty eight pounds of hot roasted
chestnuts. No charge was made for either, but a number of those
partaking of these delights did give voluntary donations to the
club.
The shop keepers entered the spirit of the evening, many handing
out free wine and mince pies etc., to those who entered their shop.
In all eighteen charities were represented on the night. All of
them said how well they had done in raising lots of money for their
particular charity.
The W.I. choir and the Hand Bell ringers entertained many of the
shoppers in the Bacchus Hotel. The Christmas music played thoughout
the event seemed to raise everyones spirits.
Father Christmas was in great demand this
year handing out free gifts to every child who visited him.
The weather was cold and windy, but at least
it was dry. All in all a huge success for the 2007 Late Night
Shopping.
